| Scatico's 90% return of campers and 75% return of counselors attest to the power of the Scatico experience. Program goals are achieved within a family-like environment that allows for fun and creativity as well as instruction and positive competition. The camp's leadership, the facility, program structure, and commitment to staff training are all factors that contribute to creating an atmosphere that is both exciting and supportive. |
Team Sports

On the athletic fields, campers learn the positive values of sports competition while developing new skills and confidence. We encourage participation by mixing instruction with play, stressing sportsmanship and an ethic that only asks that individuals try their best. |
Boys and Girls have Separate Sports Facilities. These include:

7 baseball diamonds and batting cage (3 lit) |
7 basketball courts
(2 lit - one indoors) |
11 tennis courts
(10 lit) |
2 volleyball courts |
Hockey rink (lit) |
3 soccer fields |
Watersports

We have 2 fully equipped waterfronts, including sail boats, wind surfers, canoes, kayaks, and row boats.
We recognize swimming as a lifetime sport and make certain all campers, from youngest to oldest, leave Scatico each summer with improved skills and a greater enthusiasm for swimming. |
Program Diversity

All Scatico campers are valued for their contributions to the group, whether it's starting at center on a basketball team, writing for the camp newspaper, or taking part in a show. At Scatico, campers have opportunities to pursue specific interests in depth and to explore new activities.

The Leadership

David Fleischner is a third-generation director at Scatico. He has also been the boys' head counselor since 1981. David has served as the president of the New York State Camp Directors Association and as a board member of the New York section of the American Camping Association. His wife, Diana Wallerstein, also works full-time for the camp. They have two camp-aged daughters. Click here for David's article on homesickness published in Camping Magazine.
Nancy Kleiner, the girls' head counselor since 1986, spent her childhood summers at her own parents' camp. During the school year she teaches 5th grade in a New York City public school. |
Staff

| Scatico is characterized by an exceptionally high staff return rate, over 75%. The adult staff that head programs have decades of Scatico experience, and over half of the bunk counselors are former Scatico campers. For more on staff, visit the Staff Section. |
